John Denton received a BFA in 1978 from Middle Tennessee State University in painting, drawing and printmaking. He has a painting in the Nashville Century III art collection at The Parthenon.

His work is done with oil paint, mostly pieces of plywood less than 12 inches square

Artwork

Using experiences and memories from a lifetime living and working in and around Nashville, John Denton uses oil paint and vivid colors to reimagine the familiar: Biblical stories, church hymns, religious icons, Nashville streets, local landmarks, holiday scenes, rural landscapes, and machinery. His paintings translate conventional stories into modern and compelling retellings.
